This is a blog that I wrote a few years ago and though I would bring it back to my new website it’s been updated …

This is a blog that I wrote a few years ago and though I would bring it back to my new website it’s been updated with other peoples points and quotes.

This is no way an all inclusive do all and end of of social media it’s something to try to make people think take them as you see fit and adapt I hope you guys enjoy and it helps you just a little bit!!!

1.Thou Shalt Blog (to blog or not to blog)

You must blog plane and simple it’s not just a case of sending out a tweet or a post on your face book. Create a blog this is the first thing you have to do. Use an existing blogging site such as Blogger.com or word-press ( I love wordpress). Even better set up a word-press or joomla site and use this as you main point of arrogation there are literally thousands of plug-ins and services that will let you place what you write straight into that those other accounts ping is a great free option to do this with. Ping.fm is a great way to do this, Remember twitter last for 3 months blogs last for ever!!!

2.Thou Shalt Create Profiles (everywhere)

Create a profile and stick with it !!! Choose a name now (if you snooze you lose). Create some about text and the main message that you want to deliver to your loving public. All social media sites follow the same basic registration details get these ready before hand this will save you so much time and effort later I learnt this the hard way hence r3ndr_me on a few of my accounts

3. Thou Shalt Not be a Narcissist

It’s about being social, that’s why it’s called social media. Talk to people, Talk to friends talk to everyone!!!

If you constantly talk about yourself people will lose intrest so don’t be that person that’s always me me me. it’s fine to talk to people about a holiday trip but it’s better to ask how their holiday was.

“You need to immerse yourself in the community and become part of the conversation. Social media is about relationship building and if you’re just spouting out posts and Tweets about yourself then people will quickly lose interest in you and what you have to say.” ( By Robb Clarke www.noupe.com)

5. Thou Shalt Upload Videos
Everybody can film something nowadays where it’s on you iphone or your canon 7d camera we can all make videos now and this is what people want to see. If you are a business the easiest thing to do is film your client giving you a fantastic review What’s better than seeing your customer’s smiley face on your Web site? And it doesn’t cost anything. Remember what ever video site you upload too always use youtube.com as a fall back, 3 things about youtube (YouTube’s The Most Viewed, Liked and Searched Video site EVER)

6. Thou Shalt Set Alerts (immediately)
When people are talking about you would you not love to know what they are saying? Well this is definitely the case with social media there are lots of services out there free and payed that offer this tracking (Social Mention, HootSuite to name a couple) it’s a definite must if you are going to try to make any sort of impact remember twitter is only one of the big 4 you have to watch everything!!!

7. Thou Shalt Comment (on a multitude of blogs)
Comment. Commenting is like going to a house party. You wouldn’t walk into a networking event, walk up to a group of people talking, and tell them your name and what you do in your business. That would be rude and unacceptable. Listen first. Read the blogs and add comments. You can be controversial, that’s okay. But participate. Get involved.

8. Thou Shalt Get Connected (with everyone)
Get linkedin, Get twitter, Get facebook Get these on everything you doon letterheads business cards on your email signature. Theses are you way to contact people you wouldn’t give you business cards without your telephone number or email address with todays trending people are using twitter and facebook more than they ever did to communicate that they have with there mobile phones.

9. Thou Shalt Explore Social Media (At least 30 minutes per week)
Only on twitter? Just a facebook user? Just use youtube for videos? You want to look around sign up to blogs that have the same intrests as yourself if you use youtube join groups interact with people same with facebook if you just stick to one of these you’ll never get a good response. Remember for every twitter follower you communicate with you have another on average 17% not tweeted in the last 90 days, 27% in the last 30 days, 32% in the last 15 days and 37% in the last day. It’s the tip of the iceberg so why only have one iceberg?

10. Thou Shalt Be Creative (go forth and create creatively)
It’s just creativity and having fun. But you know what, that’s what your people want. They want to see transparency. They want to see authenticity. They want to see you having fun. They want to be able to relate and communicate.

How often do you get online to find Joe blabbering on about his latest business deal? or how good they are at something? Social media will get boring in the next year or 2 so why help it, get creative, get inspired and get Social.
